Protection Officer
Danish Refugee Council Somali
Job description
About the role
The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is recruiting a Protection Officer in Sa'ada, Yemen, to work under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader. Key responsibilities

- Cash for protection and cash for referral: identify eligible cases, request approvals, track cases and prepare advances, in line with DRC SOPs.
- Provide Psychological First Aid, give information and awareness to individuals and families, and distribute personal care kits after approval.
- Report complex cases to the Protection Team Leader for final approval and attend weekly individual and monthly group supervision meetings.
- Produce weekly reports, update tracking sheets and databases, and archive hospital payments.
- Coordinate with hospitals, partner agencies, community leaders and other NGOs to avoid duplication of services.
- Other duties as directed by the line manager, including emergency call-out, and strict adherence to the DRC Code of Conduct.
Required profile
- Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a closely related field; proven field experience can be accepted in lieu.
- 2-3 years of experience in protection work, including direct support to vulnerable individuals.
- Fluent Arabic, very good English, and good Amharic and Oromo.
- Willingness to travel to field locations and to work overtime when needed.
- Previous experience in international organizations is a strong advantage.
Required skills
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel.
- Basic counseling and protection support approaches (previous training strongly preferred).
- Strong organizational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with attention to detail.
What we offer
- A contract until 31 July 2026, renewable depending on funding and performance.
- Salary and conditions according to DRC's Terms of Employment, at Band H2 (non-manager).
Applicants must submit a cover letter and a CV (no more than four pages) in the same language as the posting; applications close on 14 November 2026.
