Protection Officer

About the role

The Danish Refugee Council (DRC) is hiring a Protection Officer in Sa'ada, Yemen, to work under the supervision of the Protection Team Leader. The officer provides timely, high-quality protection services in the field, including Victim Assistance, awareness sessions, Cash for Protection, cash for transportation and referrals to internal and external services, personal care kits and other approved assistance, in line with DRC procedures and protection standards.

Key responsibilities

• Victim Assistance: verify and file cases, follow up on medical treatment, raise payment requests, review hospital claims and keep accurate case files and monthly summaries
• Cash for Protection and referrals: identify eligible cases, request approvals, track cases and prepare advances, in line with DRC SOPs
• Provide Psychological First Aid, give information and awareness to individuals and families, and distribute personal care kits after verifying contents and quality
• Attend weekly individual and monthly group supervision meetings with the Protection Team Leader
• Produce weekly reports, update tracking sheets and databases, and archive hospital payments
• Coordinate with hospitals, partner agencies, community leaders and other NGOs to avoid duplication of services
• Other duties as directed by the line manager, including emergency call-out, and strict adherence to the Code of Conduct

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in social work, counseling, psychology or a closely related field; proven field experience can be accepted in lieu
• 2-3 years of experience in protection-related work, including direct support to vulnerable individuals
• Fluent Arabic, very good English, and good Oromo and Amharic
• Previous experience in international organizations is a strong advantage; willingness to travel to field locations is required
• Available to start as soon as possible and willing to work in Sa'ada

Required skills

• Proficiency in Microsoft Word and Excel
• Basic counseling and protection support approaches (previous training strongly preferred)
• Strong organizational, problem-solving and interpersonal skills, with flexibility to work overtime

What we offer

• Contract until 31 July 2026, renewable depending on funding and performance
• Salary and conditions according to DRC's Terms of Employment, at Band H2 (non-manager)
