Stress Counsellor

About the role

The Stress Counsellor supports the mental health, wellbeing and resilience of UN personnel and their families in Yemen. Working within UNDSS Yemen, the role focuses on stress prevention, crisis intervention and psychosocial support across the UN system.

Key responsibilities

• Develop and implement a country‑wide stress prevention and management plan, delivering individual and group counselling and critical incident support.
• Provide stress‑management trainings, awareness sessions and conduct psychosocial needs assessments to monitor stress trends among staff.
• Support the establishment and coordination of Critical Incident Stress Intervention Cells (CISICs) and train Peer Helpers and Family Focal Points.
• Advise UN management on stress‑mitigation strategies, coordinate peer‑support networks and liaise with staff associations.
• Conduct regular field visits to UN offices and coordinate stress‑management activities with regional counterparts.
• Maintain confidential records in the CISMS Integrated Data Management system and submit monthly activity reports.

Required profile

• Master’s degree or equivalent in Psychology, Clinical Psychology, Counselling Psychology, Social Work, Psychiatry or a related field.
• Minimum five years of professional experience in mental health, counselling, psychosocial support or staff wellbeing, preferably in humanitarian or high‑risk environments.
• Valid licence to practice as a Psychiatrist, Psychologist or Clinical/Counselling Psychologist.
• Fluent in English and Arabic.
