Deputy Country Director

About the role

The Deputy Country Director – Program will provide strategic, programmatic and operational leadership for Relief International’s humanitarian and development programmes in Yemen. Reporting to the Country Director, you will ensure that activities are delivered safely, effectively and in compliance with RI standards and donor requirements while adapting to a dynamic security and access environment.

Key responsibilities

• Lead and coordinate country‑level programme teams, managing moderate to large resources and risk.
• Represent Relief International with donors, partners and communities in a complex operating context.
• Oversee the development, implementation and monitoring of the country strategic plan and programme budgets.
• Ensure programme design and delivery meet technical standards, evidence‑based approaches and innovation goals.
• Promote safe programming and integrate risk management across all departments.
• Prepare high‑quality progress and programme reports in line with internal systems and donor regulations.
• Drive cross‑team coordination with awards, supply chain and operations functions.
• Champion change‑management initiatives and support new programme development.

Required profile

• Extensive senior‑level experience in humanitarian or development programme management.
• Proven ability to lead large, multi‑disciplinary teams in high‑risk environments.
• Strong understanding of donor compliance, budgeting and reporting requirements.
• Excellent strategic thinking and ability to adapt plans to fluctuating access and security conditions.
• Fluent in English; Arabic proficiency preferred.
