Chief Health Officer (P-5) – Fixed Term – Aden, Yemen

About the role

The Chief Health Officer will lead UNICEF's health programmes in Yemen, overseeing strategic planning, implementation and results delivery across gender, maternal, neonatal, child survival and emergency preparedness initiatives.

Key responsibilities

• Provide managerial leadership to the health team, setting action plans and ensuring results‑based management.
• Develop, plan and monitor health programmes, ensuring quality control and alignment with UNICEF strategic plans.
• Offer advisory services and technical support to country and regional stakeholders.
• Advocate for health priorities, build partnerships and represent UNICEF in networks.
• Drive innovation, knowledge management and capacity‑building activities.

Required profile

• Medical or advanced university degree in public health, pediatric health, health policy, epidemiology or related field.
• Minimum ten years of professional experience at the international level in public health planning, maternal and neonatal health, or health emergency preparedness.
• Fluency in English.
