About the role
The Country Director leads the Danish Refugee Council’s Yemen operation, one of the organization’s largest and most complex programmes. Based in Sana’a, the role provides strategic direction, ensures programme quality and safety, and represents DRC with donors, authorities and partners.
Key responsibilities
- Provide overall strategic leadership and management of DRC’s Yemen country operation.
- Lead, support and develop the senior management team to achieve operational objectives.
- Represent DRC with government authorities, donors, UN agencies, NGOs and other key stakeholders.
- Oversee programme quality, safety, security, financial stewardship and compliance.
- Ensure compliance with internal governance, risk management and reporting requirements.
- Lead fundraising, donor engagement and resource mobilisation efforts.
- Promote innovation, learning and adaptive management to maximise impact.
Required profile
- Extensive senior leadership experience in large, complex humanitarian operations.
- Proven ability to manage multi‑million‑dollar programmes and diverse teams.
- Strong external representation, advocacy and donor engagement capabilities.
- Experience in security management and risk mitigation in conflict settings.
- Demonstrated commitment to staff wellbeing, professional development and duty of care.
- Commitment to accountability to affected populations and principled humanitarian action.
