Backup Daily Anesthetist Doctor for Emergency Hospital

About the role

MSF seeks a qualified Doctor Anaesthetist to join the backup pool for daily work at Haydan Hospital in Saada Governorate, Yemen. The role involves providing safe anaesthetic care for surgeries and supporting the emergency department, paediatric ward, maternity, and outpatient services.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct pre‑operative consultations, assess risks, inform patients and decide on appropriate anaesthetic techniques.
• Prepare and administer anaesthetics, monitor patients throughout surgery, and ensure safe transfer to recovery.
• Supervise hygiene standards, decontamination, sterilisation and storage of anaesthetic equipment and materials.
• Manage OT pharmacy inventory, drug orders and narcotics control, and maintain equipment functionality.
• Collaborate with surgeons, gynecologists and ICU staff on postoperative care, fluid management, pain relief and patient mobilisation.
• Participate in emergency response, outreach missions and on‑the‑job training of local anaesthetic staff.

Required profile

• Valid medical licence and recognised Doctor Anaesthetist certification.
• At least two years of experience as an anaesthetist; experience with MSF or NGOs in low‑resource settings is desirable.
• Fluency in the mission language (Arabic) and ability to communicate in the local language (Yemeni Arabic) is preferred.
• Commitment to humanitarian principles, flexibility and ability to work in challenging environments.
