Shelter and WASH Technical Assistant (National) – Hodeidah

About the role

The Shelter and WASH Technical Assistant provides technical and administrative support to ensure effective implementation of shelter and water‑sanitation projects in Hodeidah. The role involves field assessments, data collection, beneficiary selection, and regular monitoring of construction activities and partner performance.

Key responsibilities

• Facilitate and supervise construction or rehabilitation of water and sanitation facilities, shelters and community infrastructure.
• Participate in needs assessments, beneficiary identification and preparation of technical design documents.
• Support capacity building of masons, skilled and unskilled workers and local populations.
• Provide technical advice to integrate traditional construction methods and help beneficiaries build their own shelters or latrines.
• Collect and share weekly evidence (distribution lists, photos, success stories, field books) to verify WASH‑Shelter installations.
• Monitor implementing partners, contractors and vendors to verify compliance with standards and progress.
• Report on goods and materials ordered and give feedback on quality of work.
• Promote sustainable settlement and infrastructure management through technical training.

Required profile

• University degree in Civil Engineering, Architecture, Urban Planning or a related engineering field.
• Minimum 2 years professional experience in WASH/Shelter interventions.
• At least 1 year experience in humanitarian or recovery contexts.
• Willingness and ability to travel frequently and work regularly in field locations.
• Good knowledge of English, both written and verbal.

Required skills

• Technical expertise in WASH and/or Shelter hardware aspects.
• Ability to supervise construction and rehabilitation works of water, sanitation and shelter facilities.
