Senior Structural Engineer

About the role

Thompson Engineering is looking for a highly experienced Senior Structural Engineer to lead complex projects and provide advanced technical direction across a diverse portfolio. The role involves full responsibility for technical excellence, project execution, and client engagement, acting as a trusted advisor to internal and external stakeholders.

Key responsibilities

• Lead structural design and analysis of complex projects, ensuring compliance with codes and standards.
• Serve as Engineer of Record, performing final technical review and approval of designs, calculations, and specifications.
• Manage projects from concept to completion, controlling scope, schedule, budget, and resources.
• Provide technical leadership and mentorship to engineers, designers, and technical staff.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including civil, geotechnical, environmental, and architectural partners.
• Engage directly with clients to understand goals, present solutions, and maintain long‑term relationships.
• Oversee preparation of design criteria, technical reports, and construction documents.
• Lead due‑diligence efforts, site assessments, and field investigations.
• Identify risks and develop proactive solutions to engineering challenges.
• Support business development through proposals, presentations, and project write‑ups.

Required profile

• Bachelor’s degree in Civil Engineering or related field (Master’s preferred).
• Professional Engineer (PE) license required; Structural Engineer (SE) license strongly preferred.
• 10+ years of progressive structural engineering experience, including leadership of complex projects.
• Proven ability to manage projects, lead teams, and deliver high‑quality results on time and within budget.
• Strong communication and client‑facing skills.
