Protection Assistant – Legal Aid/HLP

About the role

Under the supervision of the Legal Aid Team Leader, the Protection Assistant provides timely, high‑quality legal aid services to internally displaced persons, returnees and host communities in Yemen. The role includes delivering legal information, awareness sessions and support for civil documentation and Housing, Land and Property (HLP) issues in community centres and mobile teams operating in South Taiz and Hodeidah Governorates.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct legal awareness sessions on civil documentation, HLP, eviction risks and tenure security.
• Provide individual counseling on civil documentation and HLP‑related legal matters.
• Assist beneficiaries in obtaining IDs and birth certificates, completing CRA application forms and coordinating with the CRA office in Aden.
• Support beneficiaries in gathering required documents and ensure compliance with eligibility criteria.
• Document, mitigate or address HLP concerns such as eviction, rental/occupancy issues and tenure insecurity.
• Maintain clear communication with beneficiaries about possible courses of action.

Required profile

• Works under the supervision of the Legal Aid Team Leader.
• Delivers services in line with DRC SOPs and international guidelines.
• Capable of operating in community centres and mobile settings in South Taiz and Hodeidah.
• Communicates clearly with beneficiaries.
