MHPSS Officer

About the role

The Mental Health and Psychosocial Support (MHPSS) Officer will deliver age‑appropriate, gender‑sensitive, and culturally relevant mental health services to vulnerable children, families and communities in Aden. Working closely with Child Protection, Education, Health and Nutrition teams, the officer ensures an integrated, child‑safe approach to programming.

Key responsibilities

• Support technical planning and rollout of SCI MHPSS models (PM+, EASE, Safe Families, Child & Youth Resilience, structured play, home‑based care, individual and group counselling).
• Develop and implement detailed work plans, cash forecasts and logistics requests related to MHPSS activities.
• Coordinate regular monitoring, supervision and coaching of facilitators and front‑line workers delivering MHPSS services.
• Ensure all interventions comply with global SCI MHPSS and child protection standards.
• Participate in MEAL activities to assess effectiveness and impact of MHPSS programming.
• Prepare documentation, reports and contribute to the development of contextualised MHPSS messaging for children, caregivers and communities.

Required profile

• Relevant degree or professional experience in psychology, social work, public health or a related field.
• Experience providing direct psychological support to children and families in humanitarian settings.
• Proven ability to work collaboratively across multi‑sectoral teams.
• Strong understanding of child protection principles and gender‑sensitive programming.

Required skills

• Proficiency in MHPSS models such as PM+ and EASE.
• Experience with individual counselling, group counselling and structured play interventions.
• Knowledge of Safe Families and Child & Youth Resilience approaches.
