Humanitarian Mine Action Technical Field Manager

About the role

The Technical Field Manager (TFM) will lead and support national mine action staff to ensure safe and effective explosive ordnance disposal (EOD) and mechanical mine clearance (MMC) operations. Working within the Danish Refugee Council’s Humanitarian Demining Programme (HDP), the TFM builds technical capacity, oversees compliance with standards, and contributes to the overall mission of protecting displaced populations.

Key responsibilities

• Manage daily EOD and MMC operational activities, ensuring safety, quality and compliance with IMAS, NMAS and DRC HDP SOPs.
• Support the HDP Operations Manager in planning, tasking and monitoring of operational assets.
• Mentor, supervise and build capacity of national staff through training and performance oversight.
• Conduct internal quality assurance reviews and implement corrective actions.
• Prepare and submit daily activity reports to the Operations Manager and IM unit.
• Analyse productivity data and recommend improvements.
• Assist in accreditation processes and the revision of national standards and SOPs.
• Provide technical advice to other DRC sectors to mitigate mine and ERW risks.
• Implement security measures in line with the programme’s security plan.

Required profile

• Proven experience managing mine action or EOD teams, preferably in humanitarian contexts.
• Strong knowledge of international mine action standards (IMAS, NMAS) and operational SOPs.
• Demonstrated ability to train and mentor national staff and build sustainable technical capacity.
• Excellent analytical and reporting skills.
• Ability to work collaboratively with programme managers, security officers and partner organisations.
