Health, Safety & Environment Officer – Heavy Machinery

About the role

The Health, Safety & Environment (HSE) Officer will lead the implementation and maintenance of HSE policies on the shop floor of a heavy‑machinery and transformer manufacturing plant. The role ensures compliance with Indian regulations and promotes a safe working culture.

Key responsibilities

• Implement and monitor the company’s HSE policy across all plant areas.
• Ensure compliance with the Factories Act, Maharashtra Factory Rules and other applicable Indian HSE regulations.
• Identify, evaluate and control hazards related to mechanical handling, high‑voltage transformer assembly, welding, gas cutting, crane operations and chemical usage.
• Conduct regular safety inspections, audits, risk assessments and maintain required legal registers.
• Provide PPE oversight, safety training, inductions and toolbox talks for staff and contract labour.
• Investigate incidents, near‑misses and accidents, prepare root‑cause analyses and recommend corrective actions.
• Liaise with statutory bodies such as Factory Inspectors, MPCB and DISH for inspections and permits.
• Support implementation of LOTO, confined‑space entry, permit‑to‑work and emergency response procedures.

Required profile

• B.Sc./Diploma/Degree in Mechanical, Electrical or Industrial Engineering.
• Mandatory Diploma in Industrial Safety; preferred NEBOSH IGC, IOSH or ISO 45001 Internal Auditor certification.
• 3–5 years of safety management experience in heavy engineering, machinery manufacturing or transformer plant operations.
• Strong knowledge of Indian statutory HSE requirements and documentation.
• Effective communication in Marathi and Hindi preferred for labour interaction.
