Engineering Associate

About the role

Thompson Engineering is looking for a motivated Engineering Associate to join its Gulf Coast team. This early‑career position offers hands‑on experience across a broad portfolio of civil infrastructure projects while providing mentorship and a path toward Professional Engineer licensure.

Key responsibilities

• Assist with engineering analysis, calculations, design, and preparation of construction plans and specifications.
• Support project teams on transportation, site development, water resources, coastal, federal, and municipal infrastructure projects.
• Prepare engineering reports, cost estimates, quantity take‑offs, and technical documentation.
• Coordinate with multidisciplinary teams including survey, environmental, geotechnical, structural, and construction personnel.
• Participate in field visits, site investigations, and construction observations as needed.
• Utilize engineering software to develop design documents and project deliverables.
• Help project managers maintain schedules, budgets, and client expectations.

Required profile

• Bachelor's degree in Civil Engineering or a related discipline.
• 0‑4 years of engineering experience.
• Fundamentals of Engineering (FE) certification preferred.
• Experience or coursework in at least one of the following: site civil, transportation, water resources, hydrology & hydraulics, coastal engineering, federal or municipal infrastructure, land development.
