Education Engineer Assistant – Technical Oversight for School Projects

About the role

War Child is seeking an Education Engineer Assistant to provide technical oversight for school rehabilitation and construction projects in Sana’a and Ibb, Yemen. The role blends engineering supervision with education‑sector support, ensuring that rebuilt classrooms and WASH facilities meet safety, accessibility and Ministry of Education standards.

Key responsibilities

• Lead technical assessments, design reviews and preparation of specifications and Bills of Quantities (BoQs) for classroom and gender‑sensitive WASH works.
• Ensure all designs and implementations comply with Ministry of Education standards, Education Cluster guidance and safety requirements.
• Provide technical input to procurement processes, including tender dossiers, bid evaluations and contractor work plans.
• Supervise construction and WASH activities, monitor quality, timelines and contractor performance, and flag risks promptly.
• Enforce site safety and safeguarding measures, conduct final inspections, snagging and handover to school management.
• Coordinate with the education team and Ministry of Education to plan and deliver Teaching in Crisis Context (TiCC) trainings.
• Manage training logistics (participants, venues, materials, transport) and conduct post‑training school visits to document teacher application of new skills.
• Support the setup of child‑friendly, safe learning spaces and maintain project documentation and reporting.

Required profile

• Degree in Civil, Construction or related engineering field.
• Experience supervising construction or rehabilitation projects, preferably in education or humanitarian settings.
• Familiarity with Ministry of Education standards, WASH infrastructure and safety regulations.
• Ability to travel frequently between Sana’a and Ibb and work closely with multiple stakeholders.
