Communications Officer (NOA) – Yemen

About the role

The World Food Programme (WFP) is hiring one Communications Officer for a 12-month fixed-term NOA assignment in Aden, Yemen. Based in the Yemen Country Office, the post sits in the Partnerships and Communications Unit and reports to the Communications Officer. The role combines storytelling, media engagement and advocacy to support WFP's visibility, reputation and fundraising.

Key responsibilities

• Implement the Yemen Country Office Communications Strategy and workplans, supporting fundraising and donor visibility
• Contribute to updating and revising the Communications Strategy
• Research and analyse assigned areas, then prepare and distribute information products to target audiences
• Maintain a contact list of local journalists and media outlets and support the flow of news about WFP's work
• Develop social media content from gathering to publication, and donor visibility content such as text, photos, video and audio
• Monitor and analyse traditional and social media to inform communication activities
• Fact-check and verify information, and coordinate accurate reporting on communications activities
• Support capacity building of WFP staff on communication topics

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in journalism, international relations, public relations, communications or a related field, or first degree with additional years of related experience and training
• Total of 5 years of relevant experience, including at least 1 year of progressively responsible postgraduate experience and a proven track record in communications in a crisis context
• Strong writing and editing skills in Arabic and English
• Ability to handle a large volume of work and meet short deadlines
