Legal Adviser – Middle East Unit (Yemen)

About the role

The IHL Centre is seeking a dedicated Legal Adviser to support its Middle East Unit, focusing on Yemen. The role will provide rapid, in‑depth legal analysis, advice and training on International Humanitarian Law (IHL) to help protect civilians in conflict zones.

Key responsibilities

• Deliver timely legal assessments and guidance on IHL issues arising in Yemen and the wider Middle East.
• Prepare briefing notes, policy papers and training materials for humanitarian actors.
• Contribute to advocacy efforts and represent the Centre in stakeholder meetings.
• Monitor developments in conflict law and ensure the Centre’s outputs reflect current standards.
• Collaborate with teams in Beirut, Geneva, Jerusalem and Africa to coordinate regional responses.

Required profile

• Strong command of International Humanitarian Law and related international legal frameworks.
• Demonstrated experience in legal analysis, research or advisory work in conflict settings.
• Commitment to the Centre’s values of equality, diversity and safeguarding.
• Ability to work independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.

Required skills

• Expert knowledge of IHL statutes, conventions and case law.
• Excellent written and oral communication in English.
