Assistant Representative – UNFPA Vietnam Country Office

About the role

The Assistant Representative supports the UNFPA Representative in designing, developing and managing an innovative country programme in Vietnam. This senior position leads a multidisciplinary team to translate regional and national goals into concrete results in population, reproductive health, youth empowerment and gender equality.

Key responsibilities

• Conduct policy dialogue with government, UN agencies and development partners to embed UNFPA priorities into national plans and strategies.
• Translate global UNFPA strategies into country‑specific advocacy plans and evidence‑based messages.
• Lead, inspire and manage the programme team, ensuring delivery of high‑impact results.
• Coordinate technical advisers and contribute to UN system coordination through policy dialogue and joint initiatives.
• Promote partnerships and strategic alliances with governmental, multilateral, bilateral and civil‑society actors.
• Act on behalf of the Representative as required, including resource mobilisation and external communications.

Required profile

• Vietnamese national, eligible to work in Vietnam.
• Extensive experience in population and development, reproductive health, youth empowerment or gender equality programmes.
• Proven ability to operate in politically sensitive environments and to influence policy.
• Strong leadership, partnership‑building and resource‑management capabilities.
