About the role

MSF is seeking a qualified psychiatrist to join its medical team in Hajja, Yemen. The role focuses on integrating psychiatric care with primary health services, ensuring culturally appropriate treatment for patients with severe and common mental health disorders.

Key responsibilities

• Provide clinical assessment and treatment for patients with a range of psychiatric conditions.
• Supervise and train national and international doctors and nurses on diagnosis and management of mental health disorders according to MSF guidelines.
• Ensure availability of psychotropic medications from MSF and Ministry of Health drug lists.
• Collect and monitor treatment and follow‑up data to evaluate quality of care.
• Assess local psychiatric services, including hospitalisation options, and liaise with the Ministry of Health to promote sustainable care.
• Collaborate with other medical specialties to deliver a multidisciplinary approach.

Required profile

• Medical Doctor degree with a mandatory specialization in psychiatry.
• Valid work permit as a specialist psychiatrist in Yemen.
• Minimum two years of experience in a similar or relevant position.
• Experience in training and supervision of medical staff.
• Fluency in English; additional languages are a plus.
• Computer literacy and ability to work in a multidisciplinary team.
