National Consultant – Fisheries Data, Community Engagement & FMP

About the role

The United Nations Development Programme (UNDP) Yemen, in partnership with Stars Orbit Consultants, seeks a National Consultant to lead baseline fisheries data collection, facilitate community engagement, and support the initial implementation of a Fisheries Management Plan (FMP) in Khor Umaira, Lahj Governorate. The assignment lasts six weeks, with four weeks of continuous field work during the active fishing season.

Key responsibilities

• Design and execute a baseline data collection protocol for local fisheries, covering catch volumes, gear types, and effort.
• Conduct community consultations, workshops and focus groups to gather stakeholder input and ensure local relevance of the FMP.
• Analyse collected data, produce concise reports, and present findings to UNDP and local authorities.
• Support the drafting of the initial Fisheries Management Plan, integrating technical and community perspectives.
• Maintain accurate data management records and ensure timely delivery of all deliverables.

Required profile

• Relevant bachelor’s degree in fisheries science or a related field (master’s preferred).
• Minimum five years of experience in fisheries data collection, community work, and stakeholder facilitation.
• Demonstrated ability to communicate technical concepts in clear, locally appropriate language.
• Familiarity with Yemen’s coastal context, especially Lahj or nearby coastal areas.
• Strong analytical, data‑management and concise report‑writing skills.
