Technical Project Specialist

About the role

The Technical Project Specialist will support FAO Yemen in the implementation of the GEF7 project, working closely with the FAO Representative and the GEF project technical advisor. The role focuses on ensuring project activities align with objectives, integrating scientific knowledge, and facilitating effective collaboration with key government partners.

Key responsibilities

• Review proposed project activities to ensure alignment with project objectives and refine them as needed.
• Integrate scientific and technical knowledge into the execution of project tasks.
• Maintain smooth communication between the FAO project team and partners such as the Ministry of Water and Environment, Environment Protection Authority, and Ministry of Agriculture and Irrigation.
• Provide technical support for the preparation of Project Progress Reports, Implementation Reports, and final reports.
• Address challenges during implementation, incorporate stakeholder feedback, and resolve issues.
• Prepare the OPIM action plan to address HACT assessment weaknesses and identify capacity‑development needs.
• Attend monthly project meetings and organize steering‑committee sessions.
• Review the quality of technical deliverables together with the project manager.

Required profile

• Advanced university degree in natural resources management, climate change, policy or a closely related field.
• Minimum five years of relevant experience in natural resources management and climate‑change adaptation.
• Working knowledge of English and Arabic.
